Diabetes Celebration

December 15th was the first anniversary of Libby being diagnosed with diabetes. We decided we were going to do a little party to celebrate how brave she has been this year and how patient Isaac and Luke have been. It is hard to believe it has been a year, sometimes it feels like it has been forever!

I tried to make the perfect cake for our celebration but . . . I had a little trouble. First the cake didn't want to come out of the pan, then I had it on a cake stand and was putting it in the fridge when it slid off into a gallon of milk. After I scooped it back on the plate and attempted to cover the mess with frosting, I decided I'd done all I could do.

The cake was actually pretty symbolic of what this year has been like for us. We have made every attempt to take care of Libby and manage her diabetes, but we have made plenty of mistakes and realized that even when we are doing our best, things don't always work out how they should. But we keep trying and it continues to get better.

You can't see it in the picture, but Libby recently got her insulin pump. It's been challenging in this initial transition, but is already an improvement over the multiple daily injections we had been doing (now she gets a shot when we change her pump cite once every three days - rather than 5 or 6 shots a day).

By the way, the cake was delicious!

  1. Yay Libby! You've done really well this year. So have your mom and dad too.

Also, the cake looks yummy. My stance is, it doesn't matter what it looks like, just how it tastes.

    Have a wonderful Christmas.
