Yesterday was the children's Halloween party at church. It was the
one and only Halloween activity we are doing this year. I'll admit that is totally fine with me. I feel like Halloween has become a month long event in the U.S. and every year I 'm glad when it is finally over.
We didn't bring costumes to Paris and there is no Halloween City (or anything like it) so we had to come up with costumes the old fashioned way, look around the room and see what we could make. It reminded me of my childhood when all our costumes were homemade. Some of the best were the wrapped present - all you need is a cardboard box and some wrapping paper; a marionette puppet - just add strings to any outfit; grapes - purple balloons.
Here is what we came up with:
 |
| A French artist. |
 |
| A mummy. |
It was a really fun party. They played BINGO, wrap the mummy, made crafts, did trick-or-treating (they knocked on the bedroom doors in the apartment), and had a pinata?? (the French are still figuring out Halloween). The American kids were thrilled to do some trick-or-treating and the French kids were glad to participate in an American holiday that involved candy. I overheard someone trying to explain a tootsie roll to a couple of the French kids - it's like a chocolate carmel. I'm not sure they liked it.

| Mummy on the metro. We got a few strange looks. |

| Libby decided she wanted a turn in the mummy costume. |
Isaac was too old for the party so he and Chris did a little sight seeing.
Artist Libby reminds me of her Gma Jacque. Cute
