Day Trip Part Deux

After Giverny, we drove about 15 minutes to La Roche-Guyon and visited a spectacular 17th century chateau, climbed to the top of an 800 year old fortified keep and wandered the caves that served as Rommel’s headquarters during WWII.  It was a really remarkable.  The kids' favorite part was the walk to the top of the keep overlooking the entire countryside.  There is no way the staircase would pass US safety standards but we made it up and down alive!

The main street in La Roche-Guyon

Up this hill there were actual current cave dwellings.

Cartwheel in the courtyard.

Spooky and strange chateau dungeon.

On top of the keep.

Panoramic view from the top.  You can see the town on the left and the gardens in the center.

Now trying to make it down.
View from the bottom.  We were all the way at the top of the tower.

View from across the road in the chateau garden.  The statue is some strange modern art piece
that looks really out of place.

Resting by the Seine after a long day.

Bus ride home.

Luke talked to students the entire ride home.  You never know what that kid is going to say.
They probably heard a lot of interesting stories.

  3. fabulous trip. Some extra artsy photographs in this entry. To be able to write: "Resting by the Seine after a long day." That's sweet. The kids are so cute and, of course, that is a priceless photo of Luke at the back of the bus chattin' em up.
You guys are such great parents to have the kids such a part of everything (pre-Notre Dame video, Libby watering, separate kid blog entries, etc).
