Notre Dame

Sunday afternoon we visited Notre Dame.  We had walked around it one of our first days here, but this was our first time going inside.  A few nights ago the kids watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Disney version) so they were on the lookout for Quasimodo.  We never saw him, although there was a street performer in the square outside who wore an ugly mask and would sneak up on unsuspecting tourists.  Victor Hugo's house had lots of images and interpretations of The Hunchback of Notre Dame that were really interesting.  It's hard to get pictures to show how beautiful this cathedral is, but you get the idea.

Isaac took this picture of all the tourists.  So glad we aren't one of those!

A medieval crusader relic containing a piece of the true cross.

Medieval crusaders believed this to be the crown of thorns worn by Jesus Christ.
It isn't much easier to see in person.  It is enclosed in a strange, red case.
We actually passed by it once and had to ask where it was.

This was the first in a series of carvings (nearly life-sized on the wall) of the resurrected Christ.

Resting outside.

  1. One more in a series of great locations. Notre Dame is a great place to sit and absorb all that enclosed space. Hard to do that with the three little ones. The carved figures on the walls are amazing. I like Sarah's Parisian look of skirt and carefree scarf.
