After three weeks I finally found enough baking ingredients to make sugar cookies. Then I remembered that I hate making sugar cookies! Even under normal circumstances they take tons of time; under our abnormal circumstances it was quite the process.
I have a terrific sugar cookie recipe (I think it is Shauna Dalton's) but it uses sour cream, so that was out! I had to find a recipe that only used the basic ingredients that I had.

Costco vanilla left by a kind, previous
study abroad family. The large bag of flour.
I used it all for one batch of sugar cookies. |

Chris picked up this industrial sized bag of
baking powder at a specialty baking shop.
A woman from church (who imports
her baking supplies) found the shop for me by
asking one of her friends who is a baker.
It cost nearly $10, but is more than enough to last our entire stay.
If I am really nice I'll leave it for the next study abroad family. |

| The eggs are stamped with they date they were laid. |
I had to convert some parts of the recipe from metric. Good thing I've spent so much time lately doing 7th grade math. We do have standard measuring cups so that made things easier.
 |
| My handy conversion chart. It gets a lot of use. |
After I made the dough I realized I didn't have any cookie cutters and using a cup would make the cookies too big. I discovered that the lid to Pam cooking spray makes a perfect small sugar cookie.
Time to commence the seemingly endless hours of rolling, cutting, baking, frosting and voila (my favorite French word), sugar cookies success.

| Of course I didn't have food coloring so they are a bland white on white. |
Doing a little, Paris/Sarah/ blog, catch up today. What a great adventure you are all having. I think Isaac looks like he could just stay there forever. Came across my Perry the Pancreas shirt the other day. Wondered about diabetes in Paris. Got my answers when I checked out your blog. Nate's cousin, Melissa Dalton- Bradford, lived in the Paris 1st ward, for many years, with her family. She has just written a book, 'Memoir of a Global Mom'. you might find it interesting. They live in Switzerland now. She plans to come to Paris near the end of Oct. I told her about you guys. She said she would keep an eye out for you. Your cookies look yummy. I'll be sure to remember how easy I have it, next time I make them.
ReplyDeleteWe'll keep an eye out for Nate's cousin. Your cookies are my favorite, but these were pretty yummy!
